The Truck Pack

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Not the most glamorous side of touring I guess...Love it or Hate it, it is obviously an essential and integral part of the touring working life...It all comes out in the morning & goes back after the show late at night...ready to be transported to the next GIG...& then...?..you guessed it... and Liam Gallagher is still in bed! This pic shows the 4th row of a Backline truck pack for Liam Gallagher... Points to note...Load bars (the aluminium tubular bars holding the pack in place)...They have FBN written on one of them... this indicates that the trucking company used was Fly By Night based in Redditch, England...the top bar is of course LB241...I wonder what that stands for??. Also holding in the pack is a load strap underneath the bottom bar. Straps & Bars are essential to pack the equipment well so that movement and vibration is kept to a minimum. This said, backline like guitars do suffer drastically even on short trips of any kind. Electronic equipment like Keyboards have improved immensely since 1970/80's when a keyboard roadie...like myself of course..would have to take them apart most days for repair. The repairs would generally be loose circuit boards and connectors. Taking a Vintage Keyboard on the road is a risky business. The stickers on the cases remain from when the case has been freighted on an aircraft. These cases have been around a little....and a little bit more! The "Lorry" (we never call a truck a "Lorry" btw..) is an articulated tractor & trailer combination or artic...along with the "Backline" (the bands personal equipment), the truck or trucks contain most pieces of equipment for the concert. Audio, Lights, Video, Wardrobe, Production & Merchandise. The letters on some of the flight cases indicate the touring artist - OR sometimes the previous touring artist. BE is "Beady Eye"...Check out the names on some of the other cases in the previous rows of the pack...
